folk song competition

It took place at Northern Miaoli Art Center in 2016. Two weeks left before the yearly competition, my college schoolmate asked if I could join a teacher's choir which would perform 3 Taiwanese songs April 20 morning and 3 Hakka language songs on the 22nd morning. I was excited that I could go back to a choir after having children. My sons are big enough to go practice with me. 6 year old Felix went with me once and 4 year old Regis went 4 times.
I sprained my left ankle on the way to the competition on the 20th. It's so painful! I felt depressed. I still needed to sing 3 Hakka language songs 2 days later!
We took 2nd place in Taiwanese song category and 1st place in Hakka song. Thank this choir for giving me the opportunity to sing with them and my husband for taking care of our sons and cooking.
It took place at Chiayi Cultural Affairs Bureau in 2017. We had more singers to join this year and sang 1 Indonesian song and 1 Philippine song April 17 afternoon, 3 Hakka language songs on the 19th afternoon and 3 Taiwanese songs the next morning. We started practice once a week in March. Twice a week in April. 5 year old Regis went practice with me mostly and had fun with other kids. 7 year old Felix went on final practice day.
We won 1st place in southeast Asia, Hakka and Taiwanese song categories and made history!!! Besides, Felix got a 99 on his Chinese exam. Thank my mom helped care for my sons, so I could enjoy singing with these great singers.

It took place at Northern Miaoli Art Center again in 2018. This year we tried a new challenge: take part in aboriginal song category. We started practice Feb. 27. Twice a week. We sang 3 Taiwanese songs April 17 afternoon, 3 Hakka language songs on the 19th afternoon, 2 aboriginal songs the next afternoon and 1 Indonesian song and 1 Philippine song on the 22nd morning and won first place in Taiwanese, Hakka and Southeast Asia song categories and 3rd place in aboriginal song! 8.5 year old Felix helped record our performance after exams on the 20th. My dad, brother, sons and husband went see our performance on the 22nd.
Besides, 6.5 year old Regis got a 95 on his Chinese exam and a 92 on math.

It took place at Chiayi PerformingArts Center in 2019. We sang 2 Taiwanese songs (你是狗蟻我是花 and 花香April 18th afternoon, 2 Hakka language songs (Sweet Potatoes and 髻鬃花) on the 20th afternoon and 2 Philippine songs (Sitsiritsit and Kruhay) the next morning. My husband helped record our performances on the weekend.
When the 6.1 earthquake happened in Hualien at 13:01 on the 18th, 7.5 year old Regis's alone at home. I guess I was moving or rehearsing at the arts center, so I didn't feel it at all! I heard my cell phone ringing after about 3 minutes, but I didn't answer it. When I checked it after our performance, it showed a call from home! Oh~ my poor little Regis~ "I hid under the table. And then, I went to the balcony to check the turtle. It hid under... at the corner in this way." He said, dropped and covered his head when I came home at night. How cute!
As usual, the annual competition took place around exam days. Because of choir practice, I couldn't be with my sons when they prepared for exams at home. Felix ranked 3rd in the class. Regis got a 97 on his Chinese exam and a 93 on math.

enjoy music at Yamaha

Wed., Oct. 3, 2012
I’m glad my son met his first teacher Ms. Lin, an active and sweet teacher, at Yamaha at 2 year and 8 month old. He liked her and enjoyed the class. Getting him started on music at this age with this great teacher is a good thing!
We tried out a free Mei-Yu class May 10. He started JU Percussion lesson yesterday. I'll take him to try Orff and Dalcroze in the future.

March 7, 2013
We went to Mei-Yu again this morning. 小肚 enjoyed the class. I liked the creative and tight program and roomy classroom. But, it takes a 15 minute bus ride and a 5 min walk to get there.
小肚 started private piano lessons this year and he’ll start Yamaha group music class again this April. I don't think we can afford the expense of taking Mei-Yu.

小肚’s had a fever since yesterday, and he did a great job during the presentation today. I think he improves every day and am proud.

The first performance on a grand piano
Bourree
July 18, 2014
Felix, turning 5 very soon and the youngest one in the class, performed on a grand piano for the 2nd time. I always feel nervous before going on stage. This evening I, an audience member, was also nervous just before Felix performed. I'm so proud everything he did came naturally and there's no problem! I'll encourage him to take part in a music competition next year.

Only 5 students remain in the junior extension course. He did a good job today. But it's a pity he didn't pause between pieces, so the endings and beginnings weren't beautiful.
